News archive - Registration deadline extended - English in Europe Conference Responses to the Lingua Franca role of English

Registration deadline extension:  August 2, 2013.

The English in Europe project aims to examine the role of English in different contexts of today’s Europe by hosting five conferences in different parts of Europe (Sheffield, Zaragoza, Copenhagen, Thessaloniki and Prague).

SEERC is the lead organizer of the fourth conference in Thessaloniki on 23-24 November, 2013.

The aim of the fourth conference in the ‘English in Europe’ series is to gain a comparative understanding of the debates surrounding the role of English as a lingua franca in the South-East Europe and Balkan region  and to explore in what ways ELF functions and is visible within these geographical locations.

Following keynote speakers will be speaking at the conference:

  • Professor Cem Alptekin (Boğaziçi University)
  • Professor Barbara Seidlhofer (University of Vienna)
  • Dr Nicos Sifakis (Hellenic Open University)

To register for the conference visit the website http://www.englishineurope.postgrad.shef.ac.uk/Conferences/Conference%20in%20Thessaloniki/registration/. The registration fee is 90€ and includes access to all presentations, coffee and snacks, Saturday and Sunday lunch and Saturday dinner.

The registration deadline has been extended to 2 August 2013.
