News archive - [Call for Applications] Masters programme East European Studies (Universities of Munich and Regensburg)

 

The Masters programme is part of the Elite Network Bavaria (Elitenetzwerk Bayern) and is offered jointly by the LMU Munich and the University of Regensburg. Its special features include an interdisciplinary project course, tutorials, internships, an interdisciplinary summer school in Eastern Europe, intensive language instruction, and workshops acquainting students with possible work opportunities relating to Eastern Europe.

 

The aim of our four-semester interdisciplinary M.A. Honours Programme in East European Studies is to provide specialized, regionally focused knowledge on Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe. Students are trained to analyse developments, patterns and situations in Eastern Europe and to embed these within a broader political, social, economic, historical and cultural framework. Along with professional knowledge in relevant disciplines and competence in one or more East European languages, students are provided with key skills that will enable them to assume responsible positions in the areas of politics and policy, economics, cultural affairs and academia. The following subjects are included in the programme: In Munich, the departments of History, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Political Science, European Ethnology, Jewish History and Culture and Turkish and Ottoman Studies are affiliated with the MA programme, its design and realization. In Regensburg it is the departments of Law, Slavic Languages and Literatures, History and Economics. The admission requirements include the following: a very good or good Higher Education Entrance Qualification (HEEQ) or its foreign equivalent and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a recognized academic field with good or very good examination results. Since courses are mainly taught in German a very good knowledge of German is also required. In addition we expect a good knowledge of English, a basic knowledge of at least one East European language, and a successful personal interview in Munich.
