News archive - [Call for participation] Plan Balkans: Europolitan!

Europe has to be a “citizen project” in order to succeed. It needs fresh ideas and innovative concepts as well as a strong supportive base from among its younger generations. Outstanding alumni from ten European Foundations get selected into FutureLab Europe. Through their blog, in public debates and through their individual projects they share their young perspective on Europe. Four FutureLab Europe Participants have started their group project tackling the issue of Active citizenship and the quest for democratic legitimacy in the Western Balkans. You can take part in their essay and photo competition as well as their survey on the role of the young generation in the Western Balkans.

According to Irma ZulicAdnan RahimicDanijela Bozovic and Jovana Rakic, the role of youth as actors in the process of EU integration in the Western Balkans is underestimated. The main issue to be addressed in their eyes, is a vain interest and poor knowledge of young people about the EU project, especially about their own rights and possibilities as European Union citizens. With their group project they want to raise awareness amongst young people of the Western Balkans about the importance of their active engagement in building the society and to foster the youth participation in creating the mainstream ideas and public opinions about their country's' European future.
