News archive - [Event review] WBC-INCO.NET at the first meeting on Research, Development and Innovation dimension of SEE 2020 strategy

The meeting, organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat, provided representatives of the ministries of science from South East Europe (SEE), the European Commission, the World Bank as well as other relevant regional and international partners (such as UNESCO, OECD and WBC-INCO.NET) with an opportunity to get acquainted with the process of development of the SEE 2020 regional growth strategy.

The participants focused on devising the Research & Development and Innovation dimension of the strategy, as well as a future mechanism which will coordinate implementation of the strategy in this area.

Background

Following the endorsement of high-level regional headline targets for growth by the SEE region’s ministers of economy, the Regional Cooperation Council and its partners initiated the development of the SEE 2020 strategy, as the main regional framework for growth. The strategy is based on five pillars: (i) integrated growth, (ii) smart growth, (iii) sustainable growth, (v) inclusive growth, and (vi) good governance for growth, and should be adopted by the ministers of economy in November 2013.
