The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is organizing a two day conference “Modern Science as a Human Endeavour” to be held in Vilnius on 14-15 November 2013. This is a Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union event. It will concentrate on the problems of strengthening the human resources in R&D and stimulating young researchers in Europe.

The sustainable European R&D potential and the achievement of the ERA objectives heavily depend on the renewable competences and creativity of the researchers working in Europe. What can be done to make these qualities better? What are the key factors impacting on the attractiveness of the researcher profession for the young ones? How the measures proposed in the ERA framework can respond to these in the most effective way? The conference will address coordination and coherence of policy initiatives and actions at EU and national levels concerning the mobility and career of researchers.
