Nominations for the ACES - Academic Enterprise Awards are open until 28 February 2013. 
The ACES - Academic Enterprise Awards - are the only pan-European awards for spin-out companies emerged from European universities and public research centres. The 5th edition of the Academic Enterprise Awards will be hosted by Vice-President of the European Parliament Alexander Alvaro on 4 June 2013, in Brussels. 

The ACES  programme is presented by the Science|Business Innovation Board. In 2013, spin-outs can be nominated in four categories:

  • Life Sciences Award
  • Materials & Chemicals Award
  • Energy & Environment Award
  • ICT Award

Nominations can be made by individuals directly involved in the spin-outs or anyone else (academics, researchers, incubators, Tech transfer offices etc). Nominating is easy. Who can participate?
To be eligible, nominated spin-outs must have originated from a European university or public research institution (i.e. not a company laboratory) and have been created on or after 1 January 2007. Eligible countries are the 27 EU member states and countries associated to the European Commission's FP7 Programme.

 
Selection criteria
The awards will be given to those entrepreneurs who, in the opinion of the judges, have created the most successful spin-out company. The judges when reaching their decisions will take into account the novelty of the research, the risks involved, clear evidence of commercial success (including, but not limited to, revenues, asset or company sales and IP generated), and potential impact on society.
