News archive - Policy Debate "Networking and Mobility in Social Sciences: Where Are We on the Research Map?", Skopje, FYR of Macedonia

On December 20th 2012 a discussion on the topic "Networking and Mobility in Social Sciences: Where Are We on the Research Map?" was held in Skopje,  FYR of Macedonia.

The discussants not only analysed the current situation in the field of mobility and networking, the opportunities and the institutional support for creating conditions, but also discussed the development of the scientific and research activities in the FYR of Macedonia through international cooperation.

The discussion was part of the RRPP Policy Dialogue in FYR of Macedonia.

Maja Bojadzievska, professor at the Faculty of Philology and moderator of the debate, emphasized the importance of discussing on this crucial topic and expressed regrets that neither this one, nor the previous debates were attended by the ones who were most concerned. Professor Bojadzievska said that the topic of networking and mobility is an extension of the previous discussions and expressed hope that during this debate we will not get poor results again, defining practice and reality, as opposed to what is written in the laws and rulebooks.

According to professor Loreta Georgievska - Jakovlevska from the Institute of Macedonian Literature at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, FYR of Macedonia is both mobile and networked from a formal point of view, but the statistical results indicate something completely different. For example, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, only 0.1% of the total number of mobile students are from FYR of Macedonia, and statistically 0% of the foreign students come to FYR of Macedonia. The data for the teaching staff is similar. Additionally, according to the data obtained from the 2010 Erasmus Mundus program, 124 requests for mobility were submitted from FYR of Macedonia, and only 17 were approved, taking FYR of Macedonia at the bottom of the list when it comes to the number of approved requests for mobility in the region.
