The final conference of the PACE project (Partners for Acquis Compliance and Energy Efficiency) was held in Brussels on November 22, 2012 discussing the Western Balkans’ progress towards EU accession. Further to the European Commission’s assessments from two different points of view – DG Enterprise and DG Enlargement – EUROCHAMBRES presented its own perspective based on two studies conducted among 500 Western Balkan companies, respectively on their compliance with specific EU legislation and on their energy efficiency.
The Partners for Acquis Compliance and Energy Efficiency (PACE) project aims at facilitating the EU integration process of business communities in the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia). PACE offers companies a unique opportunity to benefit from a so-called EU acquis audit, analysing their compliance with EU legislation in selected areas. Western Balkan enterprises can also undergo an energy efficiency pre-check, carried out by their local chambers of commerce, monitoring their energy consumption and identifying potentials for reducing energy costs. Finally, an electronic guide on doing business with the EU was produced for the project and is being distributed in three languages by the chambers of commerce in the beneficiary countries. PACE was launched by EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in December 2010, as part of the EU IPA Socio-Economic Partnership Programme.
