News archive - [Event Review] FP7 InfoDays on Research PPPs' (Brussels, July 9-10, 2012)

The EC recently organised an Information Day in Brussels on the final FP7 calls of the Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).

The Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, gave the opening address at the event, where she highlighted that between 2010 and 2013, €3.2 billion will be invested by the Commission and industry in PPPs. In 2013, €600 million will be allocated to PPPs. Geoghegan-Quinn said that the PPPs were successful for a number of reasons: they encourage companies to work together; they enable industry to identify common research priorities; they increase industrial participation in FP7; and they ensure continued investment in deployment and implementation.
Overall PPP projects have over 55 per cent industry participation, with SMEs making up around 23 per cent of industry. The PPPs have funded more innovation projects such as demonstration activities and has allowed for a quick response in defining the PPPs strategic roadmaps. For the 2013 calls for proposals, the cross-thematic approach for each PPP will be maintained, with a single stage evaluation. The deadline for the calls is 4 December 2012. Evaluation of proposals is expected in January 2013, with the first grant agreements signed in June 2013.
