The Working Group on Open Science (WGOS) aims to promote the adoption of Open Science policies and associated measures in the Western Balkans and Turkey.

The emphasis of its activities is on assisting the region to move closer to adoption of the EU 2012 recommendations on Open Science in the Western Balkan economies and in particular to:

• Define clear policies for the dissemination of and open access to scientific publications resulting from publicly funded research [EC recommendation No. 1];
• Define clear policies for the dissemination of and open access to research data resulting from publicly funded research [EC recommendation No. 3];
• Ensure synergies among national e-infrastructures at European and global level [EC recommendation No. 6];
• Designate a National Point of Reference for Open Access [EC recommendation No. 8].

The progress towards agreed objectives is operationalized through specific objectives and accompanying activities outlined in the rolling three year Work Plan updated and adopted annually by the Working Group on Open Science.
