For Women in Science
For Women in Science encourages the vocations of girls in high school, supports women in research, and recognizes excellence in a field where women are underrepresented.
For the past 18 years, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program has encouraged, promoted and honoured women scientists all over the world.
However, the current situation indicates that much remains to be done. The year’s Awards Ceremony concluded with the launch of the For Women in Science Manifesto: an opinion campaign aimed at engaging the scientific community and the general public to step up the pace of change for women in science.
Every year, the Awards honor five distinguished female scientists for their significant discoveries in the Life and Physical sciences. Scientists from across the world are invited to submit nominations and the final selection is made by an independent jury chaired by a Nobel Laureate.
Every year, the L'Oréal Foundation awards more than 230 Fellowships to female PhD students and Post-Docs across 110 countries at a time when multiple obstacles arise to threaten their careers.
15 outstanding young researchers are identified every year from among the winners of the 236 Fellowships awarded worldwide. These Rising Talents receive an additional grant, thus giving them greater visibility among the international scientific community.
