Smart Specialisation Platform
The S³ Platform (S³P) assists Member States and regions to develop, implement and review Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS³). Established in 2011 following the Communication 'Regional Policy contributing to smart growth in Europe 2020', the role of the S³ Platform is to provide information, methodologies, expertise and advice to national and regional policy makers, as well as contribute to academic debates around the concept of smart specialisation.
Registration on the Platform is open to all EU regions and Member States.
The S³P is hosted by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Seville, part of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. It is made up of three main parts:
- A project management and research team at the IPTS.
- A Steering Team gathering representatives of several Commission Services
- A Mirror Group composed of leading academics and experts in the fields of innovation and regional development, as well as representatives of networks such as EURADA, ERRIN, EBN, OECD, European Cluster Observatory, European Cluster Alliance, and ERISA).
