Short description

The Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics is scientific and educational institution that provides academic studies and develops scientific research and proficient work on natural sciences and mathematics fields.  The Faculty was founded in 1999 and it consists of five departments: Mathematics and informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology and ecology. Presently, Faculty employs 80 teachers and 75 associates.
Since its founding, the total number of 2070 students graduated at the Faculty, 155 students received their Magister degree and 77 students received their Ph.D.  degree.

The Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics prepares its students for the number of activities in the industry, IT companies, State bodies, stock exchanges, banks, tourist organizations, and for the variety of other activities.


The scientific research, besides the education, represents the fundamental part of the Faculty activities. The Faculty’s stuff is involved in many scientific projects.

Comment on cooperation
Even though the research infrastructure within the faculty is open to external users, the level of international cooperation is still not developed sufficiently. The contacts, especially with the countries from the region, exists, but the concrete cooperation is still not developed. Also, the cooperation with industry is rather low.

Research services provided to users and researchers
Main areas of research, conducted by the researchers of this institution are in the fields of Isolation, characterization and synthetic modification of some essential oil and extract constituents. As for the research equipment, it has at its disposal: GS/MSD and HPLC (Agilent Technologies, USA)
