In 2018, the High-Level Panel (HLP) of the European Decarbonisation Pathways Initiative published a report that outlined a Research and Innovation (R&I) strategy for a low carbon future in the EU, while growing the competitiveness of the EU economy. Based on this report, the DEEDS project developed an online survey to collect feedback from key stakeholders. Bringing this work together, and in light of the European Green Deal, the DEEDS project is looking at how the EU’s R&I in decarbonisation will be undertaken in the future.

As the European Green Deal agenda is being set, decarbonisation will be a key consideration in moving this agenda forward for the EU, as will growing the competitiveness of the EU economy. This webinar will look at some of the most pressing questions around decarbonisation and the crucial next steps for the EU in becoming the first carbon-neutral continent.

Maria van der Hoeven, member of the HLP and former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, will discuss the HLP final report, how change can take place, and what steps need to be taken if the EU is to meet the goal of being carbon neutral by 2050.
