G-STIC 2019: Connecting Technological Innovation to Decision Making for Sustainability
G-STIC is the key meeting place and global platform for market-ready integrated technological solutions that have the potential to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
During the third conference, you can participate in semi-plenary discussions and deep dives focusing on the 6 societal challenges.
Market-ready integrated technological solutions
Cross-sectoral approaches to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
Four years after the launch of Agenda 2030 and its associated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations, there is a consensus among experts that progress is lacking. This is a clear sign. Achieving the SDGs with business-as-usual is just not possible.
If we want to transform the current production and consumption patterns and open doors to new development and growth opportunities for all, the deployment of market-ready integrated technological solutions is a crucial step. Integrated technological solutions tackle multiple sustainable development challenges across disciplines and sectors and cover aspects of health, housing, food, water, education, energy and climate at the same time. These solutions also take the environmental, the social and the economic dimensions into account.
Identifying clusters of integrated technological solutions
Building a living library of breakthrough transformative technologies
G-STIC, aims at accelerating the transition to a wide-scale deployment of market-ready integrated technological solutions that can have a big impact on the achievement of the SDGs.
Bearing this goal in mind, clusters of market-ready integrated technological solutions are identified and the actions that are needed to forward their implementation and set up the institutional, regulatory, policy and business frameworks that are needed to achieve the SDGs are defined.
This identification process will result in a living library of breakthrough transformative technologies across sectors, illustrated with best practices and inspiring examples. This library is indispensable for policymakers developing Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) roadmaps for the SDGs, while captains of industry can use this library for exploring new business opportunities.
Starting from 6 societal challenges
Addressing 5 cross-cutting themes of crucial importance
During the G-STIC conference this year, we will identify clusters of market-ready integrated technological solutions that contribute to 6 societal challenges. In 2020, “Nutritious food for all” and “Housing for all” will be added.
