Short description

AGISEE, the Association for Geospatial Information in South-East Europe, and the Geo-SEE Institute, the South-East European Research Institute on Geo Sciences, Skopje, Republic of Macedonia invite to a workshop about the new Geographic Information Body of Knowledge (GI–BoK) and its use in practice.

Description

This GI–BoK workshop is addressed at researchers and teachers in the academic or private area, at human resources professionals in the GI industry or at everybody interested in geographic information. Participants may come from any country in South-East Europe. To be able to experiment with the Body of Knowledge, participants should have a laptop available. Participants who have already used the GI BoK would be welcome to present their experiences; please do not hesitate to contact us.

The Geographic Information Body of Knowledge encompasses the core teachings, skills and research in the GI field. It has now been revised and turned into a virtual laboratory, a dynamic e-platform (wiki-based format) including tools to use, to explore the BoK, to define curricula, training opportunities and courses and to define job profiles. The GI–BoK can be easily used for teaching, for the design of curricula and for definition of job profiles. For education, elements can be selected and linked to e.g. existing courses or course modules stored in the BoK. During the workshop, the use of the BoK will be tested using worked examples and case studies; participants are invited to test their own applications in education and job profiling.

This revised version of the GI BoK was developed in the context of EU project Geographic Information – Need to Know in a networked effort of 31 European partners in 25 countries from the academic and non–academic sectors with partners from the GI industry, major GI associations and individual experts. AGISEE, the Association for Geospatial Information in South-East Europe, works in the project in close co-operation with the Geo-SEE Institute, the South-East European Research Institute on Geo Sciences, Skopje, Republic of Macedonia.
