FIA Athens 2014 will take place on 18-20 March with a focus on reshaping the Future Internet infrastructure for innovation
FIA Athens 2014 will focus on reshaping the Future Internet infrastructure for innovation. The programme features keynotes from the public and private domains in a high-profile plenary as well as in nine parallel sessions. FIA Athens will also showcase a wide range of EU project demonstrations and posters. Prior to the event, thirteen pre-FIA workshops will also take place and a 5G-Public Private Partnership event will be organised on the last day.
The European Future Internet Assembly is a collaboration between projects that have recognized the need to strengthen European activities on the Future Internet to maintain European competitiveness in the global marketplace. Currently FIA brings together around 150 research projects that are part of Challenge 1 of the ICT programme of FP7 and are advancing the state of the art in their respective thematic areas. FIA supports open interactions and cross-fertilization across technical domains, hence it is open to all researchers engaged in Future Internet research (be they at EU or not) to contribute and participate towards FIA’s goals. The first FIA was held in Bled, Slovenia in May 2008, and reaches its 11th edition this year, in FIA Athens 2014.
The 11th FIA in Athens will focus on reshaping the Future Internet infrastructure for innovation, and more specifically on the formulation of the new Internet technological landscape based on network/cloud integration & virtualisation SDN/NFV and innovative software, services and cloud technologies that enable application innovation. Within this context, the aspects that will be discussed and presented are related to:
- The new Internet technological landscape based on network/cloud integration through Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and innovative software and services that enable application innovation;
- The contribution of the EU National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) developments in the SDN/NFV domain;
- The role of SDN/NFV in i) building Internet applications of major impact (e.g., social networks, open data, big data analysis, etc.) with virtual services capabilities; ii) enabling the reduction in resources used (energy efficiency, reduction of raw-materials, etc); iii) fostering the emergence of open platforms to create downstream markets for third party developers;
- The EU Public-Private-Partnerships (PPPs) and how they are positioned relative to these developments and relevant requirements towards demonstration and test-beds in Europe/globally.
FIA Athens 2014 features several parallel events, such as working sessions, project demonstrations, FIF, FI-PPP, session/demo/project contests etc.
