Research Policy of Croatia: Towards European Integration

Presentation of the Research Policy of Croatia, by Dr. Jadranka Švarc, Institute for Social Sciences “Ivo Pilar”, Zagreb, for JRC Information day in Zagreb, 10th of April, 2008. The presentation focuses on efforts to strengthen S&T system in order to make it correspondent with European standards of scientific excellence and economy requirements. From the legal and institutional point of Croatian systems are harmonized with the acquis, and Crotia is able to participate in European programmes. In some areas like R&D intensity, investments in R&D and number of researchers Croatia is a regional reader. But domination of the public sector in R&D represents one of the main shortcomings.
