European Commission: State of the Innovation Union 2011

On December 2, 2011, the European Commission published a report on the progress in 2011 of the Innovation Union, an initiative under the Europe 2020 strategy.

This report shows that there has been good progress in launching all the commitments under the Innovation Union initiative. In terms of Intellectual Property (IP), the report highlights that the Commission has already proposed regulations for a unitary protection and created a strategy for creating a single market for IP, which shows that “there has been good track record on putting in place the conditions that will smooth the path from idea to market.”

According to this report, “innovation is our best means to help put the European economy back on track and tackle societal challenges in the global economy”. Thus, “achieving the Innovation Union objectives, our innovation imperative, has become even more important and urgent than last year”.
