Strengthening the effectiveness and sustainability of international research infrastructures
This report presents findings, analyses and conclusions from an OECD GSF Expert Group regarding the challenges faced by research infrastructure funders, managers and operators for the long-term sustainability of these facilities. The objective is not to carry out an exhaustive analysis but rather, based upon an in-depth survey of the various stakeholders, to provide useful information and advice to funders, managers and policymakers who are faced with very practical challenges. This OECD report therefore analyses key issues that were identified all along the various phases of the research infrastructure life-cycle, presents solutions that have been found to be applicable in certain cases, and proposes a series of policy recommendations which could be implemented to increase the sustainability of research infrastructures.
