Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2012

This edition of the European Regional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS) provides a comparative assessment of innovation performance across NUTS 1 / NUTS 2 regions of the EU, Croatia, Norway, Switzerland. As the regional level is important for economic development, for the design/implementation of innovation policies, it is important to have indicators to compare/benchmark innovation performance at regional level. Such evidence is vital to inform policy priorities, to monitor trends.

The 2012 Regional Innovation Scoreboard replicates the methodology used at national level in the Innovation Union Scoreboard (IUS), using 12 of the 24 indicators used in the IUS for 190 regions across EU.
It is proven in the report that there is considerable diversity in regional innovation performances. The partner regions of the SoCool@EU project Rijn-Schelde Delta (NL/B), Frankfurt/Rhein-Main (DE), Øresund (SE/DK) are considered are Innovation Leaders, Aragón (ES) Innovation Follower.
