DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 5 DECEMBER !

The European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards put a spotlight on remarkable projects, initiatives and personalities in the field of cultural heritage.

The EU Prize for Cultural Heritage recognises achievements in the field of cultural heritage across Europe in 5 main categories:

  • Conservation and Adaptive Reuse
  • Research
  • Education, Training, and Skills
  • Citizens Engagement and Awareness-raising
  • Heritage Champions

Each year, up to 30 heritage achievements receive the European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards.

Grand Prix

Among the laureates, up to 5 are awarded the Grand Prix  in 5 overarching thematic areas. These areas reflect how cultural heritage contributes more generally to some of the top priorities at European level. Each Grand Prix winner receives €10,000 in prize money in

  • Innovation
  • Digital Transformation
  • Climate Action & Sustainability
  • Social cohesion & Well-being
  • International Relations

Public Choice Award

In addition, the public is invited to vote online for its favourite project or initiative among the laureates that receives the Public Choice Award, also receiving a sum of €10,000.

Europa Nostra, the organising partner of the Awards

Europa Nostra has managed the awards on behalf of the European Union since 2002. It is the European voice of civil society, committed to safeguarding and promoting cultural and natural heritage.

Objective of the prize

The awards aim to identify and promote best practices in the conservation of cultural heritage. They also recognise innovative developments and new knowledge in the care and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. In this regard, the EU prize not only fully reflects the objectives of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, but also carries on its torch.

The awards also enable experiences and information to be exchanged and transferred across borders and communities in Europe and beyond. They help show the value of cultural heritage to Europe’s culture, economy, society and environment.
