Short description

The European Local Democracy Week (ELDW) is an initiative co-ordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. This paneuropean event  is targeted specifically at local and regional authorities (local communities, cities, municipalities, provinces, regions). The general aim is to promote and foster democratic participation at a local level throughout public initiatives which involve citizens.

"Protecting the Environment: Local Communities Take Action" is the leading theme of 2022.

To take part in the ELDW, please choose one of the two profiles bellow and fill-in the corresponding registration form in English or in French.

Registration

Local and regional authorities of the 47 Member States of the Council of Europe are invited to register on the website to take part in the 2022 edition of the ELDW, a pan-European initiative aimed at boosting local democracy and citizen participation, which is coordinated by the Congress since 2007.

On 24 March 2021, the Congress Bureau approved as the ELDW theme for 2021-2022 “Protecting the environment: local communities take action”. You are encouraged to organise activities under this theme throughout the year, culminating in a flagship event during the week of 15 October.

The ELDW theme for 2021-2022 focuses on local action to protect the environment, fight climate change, strengthen resilience and work towards achieving SDG 11 (Sustainable and Resilient Communities) and on ways in which territorial authorities could integrate it into their work plans.

To register, we invite you to create your profile on our online platform and inform us about the activities you are planning to organise. The municipalities that already took part in the ELDW in the previous years can register by logging in to their personal account and following the instructions.

Please see the ELDW 2021-2022 biennial theme concept document for more information.
