"Enlighten Your Research" Programme at EaP 2017: Combining Science with Technology
To promote the benefits of international-scale research and advanced computer networks, the Eastern Partnership Connect project (EaPConnect) is collaborating with leading partners to create an exciting opportunity for research communities in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region through the Enlighten Your Research (EYR) program.
This edition of EYR in the EaP region – known as EYR@EaP 2017 – invites researchers from any discipline and their collaborators to submit proposals that highlight how access to internet and compute technologies could significantly improve their research process.
The Eastern Partnership is a regional and multilateral initiative between the EU and its six Eastern partners: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The partnership aims to provide support and assistance for reforms in the region in the fields of democracy, human rights, market economy, sustainability and governance. In line with this, EaPConnect is organising the internationally successful Enlighten Your Research program, which has launched an open call for research proposals for 2017!
The EYR@EaP 2017 partners provide and develop high-quality network services for all higher education and research institutions in their respective countries. The EYR@EaP 2017 organising committee consists of a number of partners from the European national research and education network organisations (NREN) community.
The program is open to all ranges of research teams – from novice to expert in the use of information technology – to support their research projects. To further promote the benefits of computer networks to researchers, through this international program the EaP is challenging researchers to stretch the boundaries of their science and collaborate with other countries to perform experiments enabled by the NRENs’ network infrastructure, services and support.
What are the benefits?
The final selected projects for EYR@EaP 2017 will receive:
- Support and advice on the use of network services and end-to-end network connectivity.
- Connections to e-infrastructure resources through the EaPConnect Partners.
- Commitment to an agreed level of resource provisioning and support for 1 year.
Example infrastructure services and resources that are made available through EYR@EaP 2017 include (but are not limited to):
- Network services
- Cultural heritage digitisation
- Cloud resources
- Compute resources in collaboration with PRACE and SURFsara
- Guidance on open data and open science with OpenAIRE
If your final proposal is selected for the EYR@EaP 2017 programme, you (the main applicant) will get free participation at this year’s Eastern Partnership E-infrastructure Conference, EaPEC2017, in Minsk, Belarus on 27-28 September, organised by EaPConnect. You will be able to present your research project at this Conference.
As a collaboration of national research and education networks, or NRENs, we aim to foster international collaborations to accelerate the research and discovery process.
How can you submit?
The submission for the first round is very light-weight and will close on 7 April 2017.
The first draft proposal is submitted electronically by answering these questions in an online form:
- What is your primary research objective?
- Do you need to collaborate with other researchers in different countries?
- Presently, what technology do you use in your research?
- In the next 1-2 years, what technology could you use to accelerate your research?
The First Submission Proposal can be completed online here
More information about submitting can be found in the attached files:
