Cohesion Funds / Cohesion Policy

Since 1994, the Cohesion Fund has been used to provide support for the poorer regions of European Union Member States and stabilize their economies with a view to promoting growth, employment and sustainable development. Member States with a Gross National Income (GNI) per inhabitant below 90% of the EU average are eligible for funding from the Cohesion Fund.

The Cohesion policy legislative package 2014-2020 was published on 6th October: you can find the provisions relating to information and communication in the document COM(2011) 615 final Articles 105-107 and Annex V.

Candidate Countries and Potential Candidate Countries receive assistance in the form of the "Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance" in order to create the structures for receiving structural and cohesion funds upon accession.
