News archive - Niš starts development of Energy Transition Roadmap until 2050

The Roadmap will include strategies for decarbonization and will be aligned with the European Commission’s Energy Union initiative and the principles of the Covenant of Mayors.

The creation of the roadmap is part of the Tomorrow project, which is implemented in partnership with the Energy Cities association and financed by the European Union within the Horizon 2020 program.

The roadmap will offer a strategic perspective of the energy transition while outlining the city’s desired state and detailed scenarios for reaching the goal. It will also clarify the roles of different stakeholders during the energy transition, and contain, among other things, the anticipated state of the city by 2050 and detailed scenarios for reaching that goal.

The final document will be adopted by the local authority’s competent body and it should be integrated into the other strategic documents of Serbia’s third-largest city.

The project is implemented by the Energy Cities association. The scientific partner institution in the project is the Dutch Research Institute for Transition – DRIFT, and the remaining partners are the cities of Brest (France), Dublin (Ireland), Brașov (Romania), Valencia (Spain), Mouscron (Belgium). and Niš (Serbia).

The total value of the project is EUR 1.5 million, of which Niš accounts for EUR 80,000.
