News archive - Stakeholders call on EC to strengthen SDG strategy

On 18 December 2019, 27 organisations, including amongst others the European University Association (EUA), the European Economic and Social Committee or the Committee of the Regions, have called on the European Commission to strengthen its strategy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In a letter to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, members of the European Commission’s SDG Stakeholder Platform call for an overarching EU strategy with a comprehensive, targeted and time-bound approach.

Pointing out references to the SDGs in the Commission President's mission letters to the new Commissioners, the Platform states that overcoming policy silos by leveraging interactions among the Goals is a prerequisite to the achievement of all 17 SDGs. The Platform members therefore call on the EC to draw up an overarching Sustainable Europe 2030 strategy in the context of the renewed European Semester process.
