Short description

The term "green growth" or "green economy" is often used for energy transition. In its essence, this process implies a radical transformation of energy based on decarbonization and digitalization. A fair energy transition also leads to decentralization and democratization of the sector, ie the inclusion of customers as active participants in energy markets, as consumers and energy producers. The conference, organized by Serbia's Energy Association, aims to address the different issues arising from the anticipated changes.

Description

In the Green Deal the European Commission reaffirms its commitment to facing global challenges in the field of climate and environmental protection, which is considered to be the main task of this generation. The EU-GD is a new growth strategy that intends to transform the EU into a just and prosperous society with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy in which there will be no net greenhouse gas emissions in 2050 and in which economic growth is not linked to resource exploitation. The EU intends to promote EU-GD policies internationally, especially in the immediate area. Thus, the realization of the EU green plan will certainly affect the energy sector of the Western Balkans (WB) region, encouraging its transformation. On the other hand, the non-participation of the countries of the region in the EU-GD will result in non-compliance of mechanisms for payment of fees for CO2 emission rights with the EU and may lead to the introduction of EU market protection measures against energy-intensive products, including electricity, from Serbia and the region. Joining the EU-GD enables the countries of the region to realize the necessary investments in sustainable energy capacities. The EU intends to integrate the countries of the region into the energy transition process through the "Green Agenda for the Western Balkans".
