Strategy on Scientific and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2016 – 2020

The draft strategy on scientific and technological development for the years 2016-2020 has been published in November 2015. It also refers to the macroregional environment, Europe 2020 and other international initiatives, such as WISE, EUSDR, etc.

The strategy includes information about the legal framework and other strategic documents, the current science and innovation system in Serbia, strategic objectives for the period 2016-2020, in particular to manage the system efficiently, to encourage excellence and relevance - in particular in relation to economic development, to improve human resources, to promote international cooperation and to increase investment in all sectors. The documents provides guidelines for the implementation and an action plan.

Institutional and strategic framework of the Strategy is based on the acknowledgement of the role of science, technological development and innovation in the socio-economic and overall development of the country, with a clear emphasis on the quality of education and research staff and competitive research for innovation. The Strategy relies in part on the positive experiences of the Strategy on Scientific and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2010 – 2015, and the current sectoral development strategies and other strategic development documents and policies, and it is associated with regional EU programs and strategies
