Short description

Euro-Balkan University is organizing the Summer School on Global Security where selected academics from prestigious institutions, security experts and influential policy-makers will be teaching in a very effective and productive academic environment. An important event not only for the participants of the Southeast Europe region, also for all our participants from rest of Europe, Asia and other parts of the World. The Summer School will take place in Ohrid from 29 August to 3 September 2017.

The aim of the Summer School is to provide a better understanding of global security issues on an interdisciplinary scientific basis. The World is facing plenty of challenges in terms of security (international and regional conflicts, terrorism, coups against democracy and freedoms, cyber-crimes, ecological crises, Etc.) Contemporary societies need to analyze security related issues for protecting and improving their peace, prosperity, democracy and future. When we can understand the risks and their influences on our lives we can develop more suitable answers and solutions.

The summer school will cover the following topics:

1. “Regional cooperation in a field of security in SEE and Turkey”

Lecturer: Vlado Buckoski Ph.D. Faculty of Law, Skopje, former prime minister, and former minister of defence of Republic of Macedonia

2. “Introduction to Security Studies: ‘Collective and Euroatlantic Security’”

•’NATO in the Post-Cold Era and Challenges Facing NATO in the 21st Century’;

•’Western Balkans Countries and NATO: Serbian Neutrality and NATO’;

• ’The Impacts of the Others Global Security Powers on the Balkan and Europe: China, India, Turkey’.

Lecturer: Jasminka Simić, PhD, Research Fellow, Editor-Journalist in Radio-television of Serbia, Belgrade

3. “Sociology of Security in Global Age

Lecturer: Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Kubilay Akman, Dept. of Sociology, Uşak University, Turkey

4. “Global Terrorism and Security

Lecturer: Col. (rtd) Burhanettin Şenli

5. “Diversity, tolerance and global security“

Lecturer: Assoc. Prof. Rubin Zemon Ph.D. University Euro-Balkan, Skopje, Macedonia

6. “Biopolitics and Security“

Lecturer: Assoc. Prof. Utku Özmakas, Dept. of Philosophy, Uşak University, Turkey

7. “Religion and Security in the Middle East and Balkans“

Lecturer: Aznavur Demirpolat, PhD, Head of the Middle East Studies, Institute of Social Sciences, Canakkale University (Turkey)

8. “Political aspects of cybersecurity“

Lecturer: Boris Manov Ph.D, Faculty of Philosophy, South-West University Neofil Rilski, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria

Participation requirements

Undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students and have interest and enthusiasm for the topics.

Participants for the Summer School program will be selected on a competitive basis.

Important dates

Application deadline: 31 July 2017

Summer school in Ohrid: from 29th August to 3nd September

Upon successful completion of the summer school, participants will receive a certificate of attendance with 3 ECTS points.

Cost

Participation fee: EUR 300

This fee covers accommodation and food and working materials

Applicants should submit, in English:

- Motivation essay (max 250 words)
