Since 2018, the Fund for Innovation and Technology Development of North Macedonia is running an annual open call “Challenge for Young Researchers”. The aim of the challenge is to stimulate creative and critical thinking among primary and secondary school students and to nurture curiosity in a way that challenges conventional knowledge. Through the discovery process, students and teachers, identify their abilities, improve their skills, and collaborate to achieve common goals.

Small grants in maximum amount of 5.000 EUR are granted to primary and secondary schools for research projects based on the scientific method, including aspects such as teamwork, inclusion, social cohesion, research ethics, and socio-economic benefits and encouraging uptake of research professions among youth.

For two consecutive years, this Challenge focuses on GREEN PROJECTS with results applicable to preservation and advancement of the natural environment and biodiversity.

In 2021, FITD awarded 10 green projects in primary schools and 9 green projects in secondary schools. More inspiring youth endeavors are expected to be financed under the 2022 call.
