News archive - [Event Review] The European Open Science Cloud holds its first Stakeholder Forum

Over 300 people gathered in Brussels on November 24, 2017 for the first Stakeholder Forum of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The European Open Science Cloud will bring together existing scientific data infrastructures to offer Europe’s researchers and science and technology professionals a virtual environment with open and seamless services for storage, management, analysis and re-use of research data.

Following the “EOSC summit” in June and the “EOSC Declaration” in October, the Stakeholder Forum gave a broad section of the European research community the opportunity to help chart the course towards a concrete and sustainable EOSC. This event aimed to identify the first steps and building blocks to make European Open Science a user-friendly reality.

The event communicated the early results of the EOSCpilot project and collected feedback on the pilot's findings in order to identify possible EOSC features and identify early viable products that can deliver European added value.

By comparing ideas in panel discussions, it prioritized the implementation roadmap with stakeholders identifying the steps they believe are most urgently necessary to build the EOSC. The forum also provided an opportunity to share good practices and information about local initiatives for fostering Open Science which could be generalized in the EOSC and discuss possible governance, funding and business models for it.

Please find the EOSC Stakeholder Forum Agenda here including all presentations held.

The event is organised by the EOSCpilot project of the EC Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Grant Agreement no 739563.
