To emphasise the importance of the joint effort among different FP7 Themes, the event will be opened at 14:30 by the European Commissioner for Research and Innovation.

The opening will be followed by an inspiring talk presenting a large spectrum of innovative opportunities in our Oceans and then by a general presentation on the rationale of "The Ocean of Tomorrow" 2013 initiative, the description of the topics and the modalities for implementation.  The event will end with a brokerage and informal networking session until 18:00.

The development of competitive and innovative marine technologies is necessary to assess and monitor the good environmental status of the seas, monitor current and new activities at sea and contribute to their sustainable operation.

The aim of the "The Ocean of Tomorrow 2013" call is therefore to pool the efforts of stakeholders from a broad range of sectors in order to develop innovative marine technologies for a wide range of applications.

Three key areas are considered:

  • Marine sensing technologies, including biosensors, to monitor the marine environment and activities at sea;
  • Innovative antifouling materials for maritime applications;
  • Innovative transport and deployment systems for the offshore wind energy sector.

The call is planned to be published mid July 2012 on the Participant Portal:
